Craft Lesson & Wellbeing Conversation

Online or in-person (Dalbeattie, and the Crichton)

Service Description

Book in for a wellbeing chat, and at the same time, learn the fundamentals of crochet, knitting or sewing. The power of craft and other creative pursuits, such as art, in calming the mind and balancing the right and left hemispheres of the brain, cannot be stressed highly enough. The focus and repetitive actions required can be likened to regular meditation in which the gaze and mind hold a point of focus, as the body relaxes, the breath lengthens and your thoughts are quietened for a time. In many ways, mindfulness can also be incorporated - consider the sensory stimulation of colour, texture, etc. In this wellbeing session, you will start working on a beginner's crochet, knitting or sewing project that we will have discussed beforehand, with plenty of time for you to gather the necessary materials before an online session. Alternatively, if booking an in-person session in Dalbeattie, materials and tools can made available for you to purchase at the time. Options: learn to make a coaster, washcloth, purse, scarf, snood, blanket, hat, tote bag or basket, or work on your own beginner's crochet, knitting or sewing kit. The techniques you will learn can then be applied to many future projects and patterns, as your hobby takes off. At the same time, in this session you will develop an appreciation for how both mindfulness and meditation can be incorporated more consciously into your craft. Important: please book a Free Pre-Therapy Conversation first to discuss your preferences for a project, as well as your wellbeing needs.
